a kid-friendly fix for the stuck page
Sometimes your brain has the words and won't share. That's okay.
Every writer has this. Even grownups. Even me. The fix is small and easy. We try three little tricks together: write the worst story on purpose, write only what your character ate for breakfast, or write the part you're most excited about even if it's not the beginning. One of them will work. Maybe two. Pick one and start.
When the words won't come · what to try
| What's happening | Try this |
|---|---|
| Page feels scary | Write the worst story on purpose |
| Beginning feels boring | Skip ahead to the fun part |
| Brain feels foggy | Write what your character ate for breakfast |
| I'm tired | Take a snack break. Try again in 30 minutes. |
Three tricks to try tonight
- Write the worst version of your story on purpose.
- Write only what your character ate for breakfast.
- Skip to the most exciting scene.
- Pick one. Don't try all three at once.
- Set a 10-minute timer. See what happens.
When your brain won't share the words, it's not broken. It's busy. Try a little trick. Then come back tomorrow. The words come back too.

Try one trick tonight. Just one. Set the timer. See what happens. Tomorrow we try a different one. That's how writers do it. You're doing it.
